Driveway Crossovers in Rockhampton
The strip out to the kerb belongs to council, which changes how a new driveway gets built.
Whose concrete is it?
The crossover is the stretch of driveway from your front boundary out to the kerb. It sits on the road reserve, which is council land, so it is built to council’s rules rather than yours. Queensland councils generally require approval for a new crossover or for a significant change to an existing one, and they publish standard drawings for how it must be built.
The details, forms and fees change over time, so check the current requirements with Rockhampton Regional Council before any work starts. This page explains the questions to ask; it does not replace council’s own advice.
Questions to ask council
- Does a new crossover, or widening an existing one, need a permit?
- Which standard drawing applies to a residential crossover, and is there a different one for rural roads?
- How many crossovers are allowed for your property?
- Is an inspection needed before the concrete is poured?
- Does the road belong to council, or is it a state-controlled road handled by Transport and Main Roads?
Things that complicate it
Footpaths, kerbs and gutters, stormwater pits, power poles, street trees and service pits near the crossover all affect where it can go and how it is built. If any of those are near your driveway, mention them when you ask for a quote.
