What a Shed Slab Quote Should Cover

Price per slab swings with size, site, steel and access, so any number printed here would mislead someone. What helps more is knowing what a complete quote covers, so you can put two side by side and see the real difference.

The checklist

The footing plan. Does the quote say it is built to the shed supplier’s footing and slab drawing? If not, ask why.

Thickness and edges. The slab depth, and the thickened edges or piers the portal frame stands on.

Steel. The mesh type, and that it will sit on bar chairs inside the slab.

Bolts and plates. Who supplies and sets the hold-down bolts, and from which drawing.

Site preparation. Clearing, levelling, any fill, compaction and the base material.

Moisture barrier. Whether there is a membrane under the slab, which matters for a workshop or storage shed.

Access. Truck straight to the slab, or a pump? A pump is a separate cost.

Conduit and drains. Any power, water or floor drain placed before the pour.

Curing and finish. How the slab will be finished and cured, especially in summer.

Approvals. Whether the shed needs building approval, and whether an inspection is needed before the pour.

Comparing

A cheaper quote that skips the base, the bar chairs or the thickened edges is not cheaper, it is a different slab. Ask each concreter to fill the gaps.
